Silvertips add two new scouts

The Everett Silvertips named two new scouts to their hockey staff on Thursday.

Jamie Lund will be based on Vancouver Island in B.C. He has previous experience as an assistant coach with the Victoria Salsa (BCHL), he also played three seasons with Powell River and Chilliwack in the BCJHL.

Curtis Fraser will be a scout in the interior of B.C. He played professionally in the AHL, ECHL, and across Europe. He won a Kelly Cup with the Alaska Aces in 2010-11.

Centazzo signs first professional contract

21-year-old forward Orrin Centazzo (84 goals, 100 assists in 260 games with Everett and Kamloops 2016-21) has signed his first professional contract with the Newfoundland Growlers of the ECHL.

Centazzo completed his junior hockey eligibility with the Kamloops Blazers in 2020-21, scoring seven goals and adding 10 assists in 17 games. He was also loaned to the Lloydminster Bobcats (AJHL) for two games, where he scored one goal.

Seven WHL alumni part of the University of Alberta recruiting class

The University of Alberta Golden Bears announced on Thursday that they had added seven WHL alumni as part of their eight-player recruitment class for 2021-22.

Included on the list are goaltender Nick Schneider, defenseman Wyatt McLeod, and forwards Brandon Cutler, Eric Florchuk, Gary Haden, Josh Prokop, and Matthew Wedman.

The players have a combined 1,643 games of WHL experience.

Jokiharu re-signs with Sabres

22-year-old defenceman Henri Jokiharu (21 goals, 98 assists in 134 games with Portland 2016-18) has resigned for three years with the Buffalo Sabres.

Jokiharu, a 2017 Chicago Blackhawks first-round draft pick, played 46 games with the Sabres in 2020-21. He scored three goals and added five assists.

Helgesen heads to Rapid City

27-year-old defenceman Kenton Helgesen (34 goals, 96 assists in 266 games with Calgary 2011-14) has signed with the ECHL’s Rapid City Rush.

Helgesen played 41 games for the SPHL’s Knoxville Ice Bears. He scored four goals and added eight assists.

The Anaheim Ducks selected Helgesen in the seventh round of the 2012 NHL Draft.

Descheneau joins Redhawks

26-year-old forward Jaedon Descheneau (111 goals, 161 assists in 265 games with Kootenay 2011-16) has signed with the Malmo Redhawks of the SHL.

Last season Descheneau was a member of Brynas IF and played in 52 games where he scored 10 goals and added 22 assists. He was held pointless in five relegation round games.

Descheneau was selected in the fifth round of the 2012 NHL Draft by the St. Louis Blues.

Gropp heads to Bjorkloven

24-year-old forward Ryan Gropp (117 goals, 137 assists in 258 games with Seattle 2013-17) has signed with IF Bjorkloven of HockeyAllsvenskan in Sweden.

Last season while playing in the same league with Vasterviks IK, Gropp scored seven goals and added two assists in 17 games.

The New York Rangers selected Group in the second round of the 2015 NHL Draft.

Redenbach heads back to Finland

36-year-old forward Tyler Redenbach (70 goals, 187 assists in 261 games with Prince George, Swift Current, and Lethbridge 2001-05) has returned to Finland, joining Peliittat of Mestis.

Redenbach, a 2003 third-round pick of the Phoenix Coyotes, did not play a game last season, despite being on the roster of the Oji Eagles of the Asia League. He had 10 goals and 15 assists in 2019-20 with the same team.

2014-15 was the last time Redenbach played in Finland, with Pelicans of Liiga.

Stevenson joins the Clan

28-year-old forward Dyson Stevenson (75 goals, 93 assists in 252 games with Regina 2009-2014) has joined the Glasgow Clan of the EIHL.

Last season, Stevenson played 40 games with the ECHL’s Allen Americans, scoring six goals and adding 10 assists. He also skated in three games with the Shaunavon Badgers of the White Mud Hockey League in Saskatchewan, scoring four goals and assisting on 11 others.

Stevenson won two Kelly Cup Championships with the Americans in 2014-15 and 2015-16.

Kiviniemi signs with Raahe-Kiekko

19-year-olf forward Joona Kiviniemi (22 goals, 13 assists in 78 games with Swift Current and Vancouver 2018-20) has joined Raahe-Kiekko of the Suomi-sarja league in Finland.

Last season, Kiviniemi played for Karpat U20 in the U20 SM-Liiga where he scored 11 times and added 18 assists in 30 games.

Kiviniemi was the 59th overall pick at the 2018 CHL Import Draft by the Swift Current Broncos.

Giants draft pick traded

The Surrey Eagles have dealt 19-year-old forward Alec Saretzky to the Humboldt Broncos.

Saretzky was the Vancouver Giants eighth-round pick in the 2017 WHL Draft.

Blades draft pick signed in AJHL

The Saskatoon Blades seventh-round pick at the 2020 WHL Draft, Carmelo Crandell, has signed with the Sherwood Park Crusaders of the AJHL.

Last season Crandell played six games for the St. Albert Raiders U18 AAA team, where he scored three goals and added an assist.
