AlpsHL: RB Juniors win the regular season!

On the last full matchday of the basic round, two clubs were unable to take advantage of their chance of a place in the Master Round. EC Bregenzerwald lost at home to HC Migross Asiago and now have to go into the qualifying round as they missed the opportunity to overtake fifth-placed Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel, who lost 4-5 away to HDD Jesenice.

The Rittner Buam SkyAlps were also unable to advance into the top 5 and lost 3-1 at home against SG Cortina Hafro. This means that the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan can jump to fifth place in the very last game of the regular season on Sunday. The South Tyroleans lost 1-2 after overtime at KHL Sisak, but on Sunday, again in Sisak, they only need two points to overtake Kitzbühel. Meanwhile, the Red Bull Hockey Juniors secured first place in the regular round despite a 3-4 defeat after overtime at the Hockey Unterland Cavaliers. HC Meran/o Pircher also won 1-0 away at HC Gherdeina valgardena.it.

Red Bull Hockey Juniors secure regular season victory despite overtime defeat
Despite the Hockey Unterland Cavaliers’ overtime victory, the Red Bull Hockey Juniors were able to secure first place and thus victory in the regular round thanks to the point they won. Both teams had an intense exchange of blows: Initially, the Cavaliers dominated the game and took a 2-0 lead with several actions. It was only in the last third that the juniors found their way back into the game and even took the lead 3-2 in the 57th minute. However, the home team responded just 18 seconds later with a late equalizer and forced the game into overtime, which the Cavaliers won after just 16 seconds.

Jesenice surprises Kitzbühel
Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel lost 4:5 away to HDD Jesenice, giving Vipiteno the chance to secure fifth place in tomorrow’s last game of the regular season. The Eagles took an early lead, but the home team dominated the rest of the first third and led 3-1 at the break. In the second third, Jesenice extended the lead to 4-1 before Kitzbühel started to catch up with three consecutive goals, but was unable to complete it successfully. Luc Slivnik (Jesenice) and Mai Crnkic (Kitzbühel) each shone with a hat trick.

Ritten fails at Cortina
The Rittner Buam SkyAlps lost 1:3 at home to SG Cortina Hafro and were unable to take advantage of their chance for a place in the Master Round. After a goalless first third, the guests took the lead 1-0 in the second period through Jacob Stoffling. In the 36th minute, the Knights equalized through Diego Cuglietta. Just before the end, Ritten risked everything as they needed a win in regulation time and conceded two empty net goals in the process.

Clear away win for Asiago against Bregenzerwald
HC Migross Asiago won 5-1 away from home against EC Bregenzerwald, depriving the home side of the chance of reaching the Master Round. Nicholas Porco scored in the first minute to give the team a 1-0 lead. In the second third, Asiago extended their lead with three more goals before Bregenzerwald was able to reduce the lead for the first time in the 37th minute. However, there was no comeback and in the 52nd minute Asiago made the final score 5-1. Lucas Chiodo scored the goals to make it 2-0, 4-0 and 5-1 and thus secured a hat trick.

Sisak with overtime home win – battle for second and fifth place continues
The KHL Sisak won 2-1 at home after overtime against the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan, giving the Broncos the last chance to make it into the Master Round on Sunday. The game in Croatia, attended by 1,953 spectators, started goalless. In the second third, the guests took the lead through Davide Conci in the 28th minute. Less than two minutes later the home team equalized. A scoreless final third finally led to overtime, in which Marijus Dumcius Sisak scored the victory after 18 seconds. Sisak can move up to second place with one point on Sunday, while the Broncos need two points to reach fifth place ahead of Kitzbühel.

Merano wins against Val Gardena
HC Gherdeina valgardena.it suffered a 0-1 home defeat against HC Meran/o Pircher. The first two thirds remained goalless before the visitors took the lead in the 44th minute through Finn Rasmus Nousiainen. Val Gardena couldn’t find an answer in the remaining 15 minutes, so thanks to a shutout from goalkeeper Andreas Bernard, the Merano team left the ice as winners and moved past Val Gardena in the table, securing tenth place.
