VSV has surprisingly parted ways with head coach Tray Tuomie. The club and coach officially agreed to keep quiet about the mutual dissolution; the club did not communicate any further details.
The decision was unexpected: Under Tuomie, VSV had recently won four out of six games and was in a play-off place. In general, the 57-year-old German-American seemed to have a good rapport with the team.
Behind the scenes, however, there are said to have been tensions between Tuomie and sports director Herbert Hohenberger for a long time, which escalated after the defeat in Vorarlberg. The decision was finally made at a nightly board meeting. Hohenberger commented on the situation as follows: “If we play good hockey, it doesn’t matter who is on the bench. It’s important now that we fully support Marco,” the sports director told the “Crown newspaper“.
Pewal Interim Head Coach – new head coach to be announced soon
Interim coach Marco Pewal is now leading the training together with Patrick Machreich. “We didn’t have time to adjust tactically. I didn’t sleep much. Of course I was nervous,” said Pewal, who played for the Villacher Adler for many years. The Villach native is also behind the gang in the derby against KAC. A new head coach will soon be presented – the new main trainer could probably come from overseas, and Harry Lange, who was kicked out in Graz, is also considered an option.
