After a horror third: ÖEHV team loses to Slovakia!

The ÖEHV team clearly lost 2:6 to the team from Slovakia in the first game of the prestigious Germany Cup. Due to a weak starting third in which the Austrians scored five goals, team boss Roger Bader’s cracks were behind from the start. Goals from Peter Schneider and Lucas Thalter made it possible to cosmeticize the result. Debutant and shooting star Paul Sintschnig was no longer able to continue the game after a bad attack on the gang!

From the first face-off, Slovakia put Austria under a lot of pressure. David Kickert had a lot to do in the first two minutes, but after 1:50 minutes of the game he was powerless for the first time when Maxim Cakjovic gave his team a 1-0 lead. Youngster Paul Sintschnig appeared for the first time shortly afterwards, but with a two-minute penalty against him. Our neighbors used the power play to immediately make it 2-0.

It seemed to have been a wake-up call for Team Austria, who now tested the Slovakian goalkeeper for the first time. But Slovakia promptly struck for the third time in that phase (7th minute) and increased the lead to 4-0 in the 11th minute. Shortly before the end of the first section, Kickert found his way into the goal again after a poke in front of the goal.

Head coach Roger Bader finally found the right words during the third break because the team came out of the locker room feeling completely different. Shots on goal were 10-4 in the second third. Slovakia visibly found it more difficult against the Austrians, who were now playing more aggressively and faster, and also had to serve the first two-minute penalties of the game.

In the 36th minute Peter Schneider was there with the almost overdue 1:5. The picture changed little in the third third. Austria created numerous chances by moving towards the goal. Lucas Thaler used one of them with a rebound to make it 2:5.

In the 54th minute, Oskar Maier found another huge chance. At the same time, Paul Sintschnig crashed his left shoulder into the boards and missed his team’s final minutes. In the 59th minute, Slovakia made the final score 6-2, although the goal probably shouldn’t have counted because of offside.

On Saturday we continue against hosts Germany, and on Sunday we will face Latvia.
