Five of the six Saturday games in the Alps Hockey League ended with just one goal difference. While the Red Bull Hockey Juniors continued to extend their lead in the table, KHL Sisak won the first duel against Ritten. Zell am See was the only away team to celebrate a win and improved to fourth place.
KHL Sisak – Rittner Buam SkyAlps 5:4 SO
In front of almost 1,700 spectators, Sisak and Ritten fought a thrilling duel with constantly changing leads. The guests opened the score early before the Croatians equalized shortly before the first break. After further goals on both sides, Sisak took the lead for the first time in the 35th minute, but Ritten immediately responded with the score 3-3. The South Tyroleans also made up for a deficit in the final section – with the score at 4:4 we went into a shootout, where Panasenko secured the much celebrated home win. Both teams will meet again on Sunday.
HC Gherdeina valgardena.it – HC Meran/o Pircher 4:3 OT
Val Gardena got off to an ideal start against Meran and scored early in the power play in both the first and second periods. However, the guests were able to equalize. The home team went ahead again in the 31st minute, and Meran also responded in the power play through Gellon. After the score was 3-3, the game went into extra time, where Buono scored the decisive goal. Gherdeina ended its negative series of three defeats, while Meran suffered its fourth defeat in a row.
Hockey Unterland Cavaliers – EK Die Zeller Eisbären 4:5
The bottom team demanded everything from Master Zell am See, but in the end they had to narrowly admit defeat. The Pinzgauers took the lead early on, but Unterland turned the game around in the meantime. Zell equalized and was ahead again at the start of the third period. The hosts came back again, but Wilfan and Stiegler – with his second goal – made it 5:3. The Cavaliers’ next goal came too late, Zell won 5:4 and climbed to fourth place in the table.
Red Bull Hockey Juniors – HC Migross Asiago 7:5
A real offensive fireworks display developed in Salzburg. Asiago quickly made it 2-0 thanks to a brace from Porco, but the league leaders turned the game around in the first third. The home team extended their lead to two goals several times before Lemke made the decision 7:4. In the end there was a 7:5 win and the fifth win in a row for the Juniors, who further consolidated their top position.
EC Bregenzerwald – HDD Jesenice 3:2
EC Bregenzerwald remains a force at home and celebrated its third home win of the season. In front of over 1,200 fans, Vorarlberg went ahead in the fifth minute and increased the score in the middle section. Lipsbergs scored to make it 3-0 and took the lead in the club’s all-time scorer ranking. Jesenice fought back with two goals, but the equalizer was no longer possible.
SG Cortina Hafro – Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan 3:2
After four defeats, Cortina was back on the road to success. In a hard-fought duel, Massimo Pietroniro got his team on track in the 29th minute. Before the second break, Cortina increased to 2-0. The Broncos reduced the deficit twice in the final third, but the hosts managed to win 3-2 over time and thus celebrated important points.
