Doomed to win: VSV fights to stay in the top 6!

The EC iDM Heat Pumps VSV have a home game against FTC-Telekom today. A probably trend-setting game when it comes to the chance of direct playoff qualification.

A week after the overtime defeat against EC Red Bull Salzburg, the Adler from the Draustadt are back to business. The guest is Ferencvaros Budapest, a direct competitor and neighbor in the table. The Carinthians currently have 39 points, Budapest has 37, and sixth-placed Salzburg has 44 points. If Salzburg lost and won, their chances of moving onto the “direct playoff train” would drastically diminish.

This is a six-point game. Budapest is a dangerous team. We have to stick to the game plan and then it will work,” said VSV crack Maximilian Rebernig to the “Crown newspaper“. Maybe the 25-year-old can shake off his goal ban against the Hungarians. Last year the striker shone with 23 goals, this year he only has two in 22 appearances: “Of course I think about it often. It’s fine from a playing perspective anyway, I’m just not scoring the goal at the moment. The important thing is to keep working hard.”

In the third of four duels of the season against the Magyars – Villach has won both games so far – new signing Brett Ritchie will celebrate his debut in the Draustadt team’s uniform.
