Rafael Rotter is again part of the Capitals organization! The 38-year-old Viennese, who has developed in a total of 14 seasons in the jersey of the Donaustädter legend status, returns to the Vienna Capitals, among other things to complete the professional team of the professional team as an individual coach. After 14 seasons as a player in the service of the Vienna Capitals, Rafael Rotter will take over a position in the Viennese coaching staff for the first time from the coming season. The 38-year-old gained a first coaching experience as an assistant coach last season at his last club, the EC Kitzbühel. In Vienna, the MVP of the 2017/18 season as an individual coach is to pass on its large wealth of experience. Above all, the younger players of the fighting team should benefit from this. Together with head coach Gerry Fleming, Assistant coach Fabian Scholz, goalie coach Bernhard Starkbaum and athletic coach Patrick Peter forms the coaching staff for the coming season. This expansion gives the coaching team further flexibility in order to increase the quality of daily on and off-Ice training. In addition, Rotter’s skills as a motivator in Vienna-Kagran are well known. The caps legend is a completely integrated part of the coaching team and will also make a contribution to the training of the Eastern Austrian ice hockey offspring as an ambassador for the Pho3nix Vienna Capitals Youth Foundation. In this role, Rotter will visit the youth players of the partner associations in Vienna and Lower Austria during their training sessions and provide them with valuable lessons and advice.
As a player, Rafael Rotter was one of the legendary figures of the Vienna Capitals. The Viennese, who stood on the ice between 2008 and 2021 and in the 2022/23 season, won the championship title with the Danube Cities in the 2016/17 season. In the following season, Rotter was named Liga MVP after an outstanding basic round with 71 scorer points (30 goals + 41 assists). Rotter’s 159 goals, 372 templates and 531 points in all competitions are all best stamps for the Vienna Capitals. His 684 competitive games were only surpassed by Phil Lakos (949) and Mario Fischer (788). Since September 2023, a banner with Rotter’s rear number 6 has been attached under the roof of the Steffl Arena to appreciate the services of the now 38-year-old for the Capitals organization.
