Vienna Capitals defender Wolf with angry speech: “It’s a catastrophe!”

The Vienna Capitals’ sporting decline in the ICE Hockey League continues. Last night, the team led by interim coach Fabian Scholz had to accept a bitter disappointment in the Steffl Arena at home: they suffered a clear 3-0 defeat against EC VSV.

The zero number on the offensive and the renewed defeat have further worsened the Viennese position in the table. With just 18 points they are only in eleventh place, only six points separate the Capitals from the bottom team from Vorarlberg.

The frustration after the bankruptcy was clearly noticeable among the players. After the game, defender Raphael Wolf in particular found clear words for his team’s dismal performance.

“We are very disappointed. It’s a catastrophe, I don’t know when we’ll learn from it,” Wolf said angrily in an interview after the game. He analyzed the problems ruthlessly: “Our outnumbered game is good, but we get too many penalties. In the middle third we push the fruit (note: disc) back and forth – and without scoring, it becomes difficult to win.”

The defender called for an immediate reaction and self-reflection from the entire team: “We have to look in the mirror and ask ourselves when we start playing ice hockey.”
