Patrick Fischer’s troop won 2-1 in overtime against Sweden for its second match in the third stage of Euro Hockey Tour.
This victory, the second in the last three duels delivered against Sweden, was long to take shape. Switzerland was thus still led 1-0 to seven minutes from the end of regulation time, when it had just passed – without damage – almost six minutes in numerical inferiority.
The selflessness of the Helvetians was finally rewarded at the 54th, on a magnificent one-two made by Nicolas Bächler (Zurich Lions) and Simon Knak (Davos). The first subtly deflected the pass of the second to offer a deserved equalization to the selection of Patrick Fischer.
Credited by an assistance mention on this equalizing goal, Christoph Bertschy was the great man of this meeting. In “Overtime”, the Friborgian recovered the Puck in the opposing defense area thanks to his “Forechecking” before serving Calvin Thürkauf for 2-1, at 1’42 from the end of the extension.
