U-turn: HC Meran remains in the Alps Hockey League!

Runner-up HC Meran/o Pircher remains part of the Alps Hockey League. The South Tyroleans had not originally registered for the coming season, but have now submitted their entry for the 2026/27 season. This means that 14 teams have entered the eleventh season of the four-country league.

For Meran, the past sixth season in the Alps Hockey League was by far the most successful. After the Eagles only finished the basic round in tenth place, they sensationally fought their way to the final. There they lost to HC Gherdeina valgardena.it in the first all-South Tyrolean final.

As runner-up, Meran will also be one of the hunted teams in the coming season. The South Tyroleans had originally let the entry deadline for 2026/27 pass, but have now submitted their registration. New structures in the board formed the basis for the decision, which means that seven Italian teams will continue to be represented in the multinational league.

“We want to continue our growth path”

Stefan Kobler, President HC Meran/o Pircher: “Success and suffering are often close together – we saw that last season: from 10th place to runner-up. After a successful year, we want to continue our growth path. We are highly motivated and can now go to work with great confidence. Since our first year in the Alps Hockey League, we have been growing with the challenges – both in terms of sport and organization. With a new structure and fresh motivation, we would like to build on our success and continue to do so show attractive, good hockey.”

Michael Suttnig, Commissioner of the Alps Hockey League: “We are very pleased to continue to have the current runner-up in our league. Meran is a traditional ice hockey location and an important part of the Alps Hockey League. It is therefore a great enrichment that Meran remains part of the Alps Hockey League.”
