The Pioneers Vorarlberg are still waiting for the first points after four season games in the Win2day Ice Hockey League. The next opportunity against the Vienna Capitals on Friday. Before the home game, newcomer Eric Florchuk talks about the start of the season and his personal development.
One who focuses particularly in the current Pioneers squad is 25-year-old Canadian Eric Florchuk. The center is playing its first season in European professional ice hockey this year and was most recently scored in Ljubljana in the Win2day Ice Hockey League. Despite the four defeats, Florchuk is convinced of his team: “The trust in the cabin is still high. The most important thing is that we play constant over the full 60 minutes. In the last two games we had a strong start, but then broke out in the middle section – that at the end it cost us points.”
As the only team in the league, the Feldkirchers are there after a difficult start without counters. On Friday evening (7.30 p.m., Livestream on Sporteurope.tv), the team of head coach Johannes Nygård wants to score the first points with their fans in the back against the Vienna Capitals. Last season, the team from Feldkirch won all four direct duels against Vienna. “We are extremely hungry for the first points. If we concentrate on our own game and keep an eye on the small details, we have good chances,” said Florchuk, for which the first professional season also means an important step: “It is going well, I am making progress. In the past games I was able to take steps forward, now I have to continue working and develop me further.”
