HC Meran/o Pircher inflicted their second defeat in a row on Monday to leaders Red Bull Hockey Juniors. The South Tyroleans prevailed in the shootout in front of their home audience.
In the direct duel for second place, KHL Sisak celebrated a convincing shutout home win against champions EK Die Zeller Eisbären. In addition, HDD Jesenice ended the winning streak of the Rittner Buam SkyAlps, while Kitzbühel, Cortina and Val Gardena also remained successful.
HC Meran/o Pircher – Red Bull Hockey Juniors 3:2 SO (1:1, 1:0, 0:1)
Schuster gave Salzburg the lead in the 9th minute, and Stefanson equalized a little later. Shortly before the second period break, Cruseman scored in the power play to make it 2-1 for Meran. Eliseev equalized at the beginning of the final third with a double advantage, which also sent the game into extra time. Despite numerous failures and the use of several U17 players, the juniors showed a committed performance, but in the end the home team celebrated: After goalless overtime, Claesson secured the extra point in the penalty shootout.
KHL Sisak – EK Die Zeller Eisbären 4:0 (1:0, 2:0, 1:0)
Sisak secured valuable points in the direct duel for second place. Yeob gave the home team an early lead before Panasenko, shorthanded, made it 2-0 shortly after the start of the second period. Zell found it difficult to create clear chances during this phase, while Sisak took advantage of his opportunities in an ice-cold manner. Brus made it 3-0 with a precise shot, and Yeob sealed the final score with his second goal in the 44th minute. This ended a series of three wins for the Pinzgauers.
Hockey Unterland Cavaliers – Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel 3:4 OT (0:0, 2:2, 1:1)
The bottom team demanded everything from Kitzbühel, and in the end the Tyroleans prevailed in extra time. After a goalless opening third, Kitzbühel took the lead, but Unterland turned the game around and the score went into the second break at 2-2. The hosts presented again in the final third, but the Eagles found the answer again. In overtime, Loshing became the match winner with his second goal – 18 seconds before the end.
Rittner Buam SkyAlps – HDD Jesenice 2:4 (1:1, 1:1, 0:2)
The winning streak of the Rittner Buam SkyAlps is broken after five successes in a row. The South Tyroleans started strong and took the lead through Manuel Öhler, but Koblar equalized in the first third. Ritten continued to dominate the game in the second period and scored again through Felicetti before Oblak made it 2-2 with a long-range shot. In the final third, the guests took advantage of their chances: Slivnik put Jesenice in front for the first time, Burgar made it 4-2. Despite the final offensive, Ritten remained without another goal.
SG Cortina Hafro – HC Migross Asiago 5:2 (2:0, 1:0, 2:2)
Cortina celebrated its fifth win in a row. Massimo Pietroniro opened the scoring and increased the score to 3-0 in the second period. Early in the final period, Kalajanniska made it 4-0 before Asiago briefly reduced the lead with a double strike. In the end, Cortina won confidently 5-2, and it was the guests’ third defeat in a row.
HC Gherdeina valgardena.it – Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan 6:3 (0:0, 3:2, 3:1)
After a goalless first third, over 1,100 fans saw nine goals. Initially Vipiteno was in the lead twice, but Val Gardena equalized each time and turned the game in its favor in the 29th minute. In the final section the Furie pulled away and celebrated a clear 6:3 home win. Pitschieler scored a hat trick and newcomer Dostalek scored twice on his debut.Alps Hockey League.
