Ice hockey superstar Sidney Crosby became the ninth player in NHL history to reach the 1,700 point mark. The 38-year-old Canadian recorded a goal and two assists in his Pittsburgh Penguins’ 6-3 home win against St. Louis and now has 1,701 points. The milestone was overshadowed by a tragedy in the stands. According to the Penguins, a fan fell from the upper tier of the arena. According to police, the man is in critical condition.
“Our concern at this time continues to be with the individual affected and their family,” the Penguins wrote. After the victory, Crosby was also thinking about the injured man. “It doesn’t feel right to talk about points when you hear something like that,” he said. “Of course, our thoughts and prayers are with this individual and his family, and we hope they are doing well.”
A further improvement in the all-time points list (goals and assists) certainly seems possible for Crosby (632 goals, 1,069 assists). The next player would be Mario Lemieux (1,723), followed by Steve Yzerman (1,755), Marcel Dionne (1,771) and Ron Francis (1,798). Unreachable is Wayne Gretzky (2,857), second is Jaromir Jagr (1,921).
