There are a total of eight games on the program in the Alps Hockey League on Saturday and Sunday. Champion Zell am See welcomes league leaders Red Bull Hockey Juniors to the top game. While Kitzbühel wants to continue its winning streak against bottom team Unterland, Bregenzerwald and Sisak will meet twice this weekend.
EK Zeller Eisbären – Red Bull Hockey Juniors
The EK Zeller Eisbären welcome the league leaders from Salzburg – the Red Bull Hockey Juniors – to the KE KELIT Arena. The derby is also the “Charity Hockey Night” for Corin Konradsheim. Both teams have recently won four times in a row and are in strong form. While the defending champions are currently in fourth place, the Juniors lead the league with 13 wins after regular playing time. They have the best offense and one of the most stable defenses in the entire AHL. The Finns Eliseev and Juhola in particular stand out with strong goal and assist values. The first duel of the season ended with a clear 5-1 win for the juniors.
EC Bregenzerwald – KHL Sisak
After a week’s break, Bregenzerwald and Sisak are back in the action. The two teams meet on Saturday and Sunday in Dornbirn. The Vorarlbergers have won seven of their last eight games and are in sixth place, but have played fewer games than the competition. The Croatians were knocked off the top of the table just this week and have won six of their last eight matches. Sisak clearly won the first duel of the season 5-0.
Hockey Unterland Cavaliers – Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel
With five wins in a row, Kitzbühel currently has the longest winning streak of all teams and also has the best defense in the league. Bottom team Unterland was able to celebrate again on Thursday for the first time after five defeats – in the first game under interim coach Tuomo Harjula. In an exciting encounter, the Cavaliers prevailed against Val Gardena in overtime after being two goals behind twice. Nevertheless, the South Tyroleans are already nine points short of twelfth place. Kitzbühel clearly won the first duel of the season 5-1.
HC Migross Asiago – HDD Jesenice
After four wins in a row, Asiago recently suffered two narrow defeats. On Thursday, head coach John Parco’s team lost to Cortina in extra time despite having a two-goal lead. Jesenice lost for the third time in a row on the same evening – 2:3 after overtime against Vipiteno. The Slovenians are currently in eleventh place, ten points behind the fifth-placed Italians. Asiago narrowly won the first meeting 4-3.
Rittner Buam SkyAlps – SG Cortina Hafro
Ritten (7th place) against Cortina (8th) is the duel between two table neighbors. The team from Klobenstein lost six of their last seven games, most recently 2:4 in Zell am See. Cortina, on the other hand, has recently shown a clear upward trend with three wins from the last four league games and a strong performance in the Continental Cup. The Italians won the first duel of the season after a penalty shootout. However, Ritten was always victorious in the last ten AHL home games against the blue-whites.
HC Gherdeina valgardena.it – Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan
Val Gardena had to admit defeat to bottom team Unterland in extra time on Thursday and has the longest negative streak in the league with five defeats in a row. With 19 points, Vipiteno is one place ahead of Val Gardena in ninth place. The Broncos ended their own losing streak with a win at Jesenice on Thursday. The first duel of the season went 2-1 to the team from Wolkenstein.
HC Meran/o Pircher – HC Migross Asiago
Asiago visits Merano on Sunday and will play its second game within 24 hours. The Adler have recently suffered three defeats in a row and are currently in second-to-last place in the table. The two teams already faced each other in the preseason – Asiago won 3-0.
