November break in Europe’s leagues. So everything is focused on the national teams. The men will compete in the Germany Cup in Landshut (GER) for the fourth time in a row from Thursday, while the women will meet Norway and the hosts in Bozen (ITA). The male junior teams are also in action at various tournaments across Europe.
There is a small change in the men’s squad: due to the loss of Benjamin Baumgartner, who was recently unavailable for his club Bern in the Swiss NLA, Oskar Maier was nominated by the Pioneers Vorarlberg. The meeting point for all players was this afternoon in Landshut, where the program initially included a session in the weight room.
As the IIHF announced at the weekend, the games at the upcoming Deutschland Cup already count towards the 2026 IIHF European Cup of Nations. According to the IIHF, this new format is intended to transform international play breaks into a platform for meaningful, competitive international matches.
The IIHF will continue to work with national member associations (MNAs) to build the European Cup of Nations, with the long-term goal of developing a sustainable, marketable product that promotes both player development and fan engagement between major tournaments.
Women meet Olympic participants Italy
The women’s national team begins preparing for its debut participation in the top division exactly one year before the 2026 IIHF Women’s World Championship. In Bolzano there is a three-nation tournament against Norway and Olympic host Italy. Head coach Alexander Bröms can also count on his captain Anna Meixner as well as numerous players with World Cup experience.
Important test for the U20 before the World Cup Division IA in December
The men’s team also has several test matches on the program, and the U20 team is heading to the four-nation tournament in Norway. At the beginning of December we complete the final preparation for the U20 World Cup Division IA, which will be held in Bled (SLO) from December 7th to 13th. There you meet Kazakhstan, Norway, Slovenia, France and Ukraine. “We have to be fully prepared again,” explains head coach Philipp Pinter.
The tournament in Stavanger, Norway, comes at just the right time. Two nations from the Top Division, Latvia and Denmark, are also competing. Host Norway was relegated from the Top Division two years ago and, like Austria, wants to return to the top ten nations in the world.
The U18s are also going to a four-nation tournament. In Budapest (HUN) you meet Slovenia, Hungary and Italy. In spring 2026, head coach Peter Schweda’s team will fight for a return to Division IA at the World Cup Division IB. There will be a reunion with Italy there at the latest.
The U20 and U18 games will be streamed live via streaming.krone.at.
Like the U18, the U16 is also in action in neighboring countries. In Kranj (SLO), like the U18s, they also face Slovenia, Hungary and Italy.
