In the Alps Hockey League, the Rittner Buam SkyAlps continued their winning streak on Saturday with an overtime win against league leaders Red Bull Hockey Juniors and thus improved to fifth place. While EK Zell am See in Meran took revenge for the defeat in the first duel of the season, the top teams Sisak and Kitzbühel suffered defeats.
Red Bull Hockey Juniors – Rittner Buam SkyAlps 2:3 OT (2:0, 0:1, 0:1)
With a comeback victory, Ritten ended league leaders Salzburg’s successful run. The Juniors started strong and took a 2-0 lead into the first break. The South Tyroleans scored again in the middle period before Crespi equalized in the power play in the 42nd minute to make it 2-2. Kostner finally made the decision in overtime. With its fifth win in a row, Ritten climbed to fifth place and also celebrated its fourth success in a row against the Red Bulls.
HDD Jesenice – KHL Sisak 6:3 (3:0, 2:3, 1:0)
After two defeats, Jesenice returned to winning ways. The Slovenians laid the foundation for success in the first third, which they clearly won 3-0. In the middle period, the home team extended their lead to 5-0 by the 30th minute. However, Sisak did not give up and reduced the score to 3:5 by the second break. Koblar made the final decision, scoring in the power play in the 52nd minute and fixing the final score.
HC Meran/o Pircher – EK Die Zeller Eisbären 3:5 (1:3, 1:1, 1:1)
Zell am See successfully took revenge for the defeat in the first duel of the season. Although Meran took the lead early on, the reigning champions turned the game around in the first third and led 3-1 at the break. Even after 40 minutes, the Pinzgauers maintained their two-goal lead (4:2). Early in the final period, Meran came close again, but Rupnik made everything clear with the goal to make it 5:3. It was the third win in a row for Zell am See.
Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan – Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel 6:3 (2:2, 3:1, 1:0)
Kitzbühel dominated the game, especially in the first third, but failed to break away. The Tyroleans took the lead twice in the first section and again in the middle section, but Vipiteno equalized in each case. With a double strike, the Broncos finally turned the game in their favor. Sproviero – like Livingston with a brace – made the final score 6-3 with an empty netter. For the team from Vipiteno it was a successful experience again after two defeats.
EC Bregenzerwald – HC Migross Asiago 8:3 (0:0, 3:3, 5:0)
The fans in Dornbirn saw a high-scoring game. After a goalless first third, eleven more goals were scored. Asiago initially took the lead and was 3-1 ahead at one point before Bregenzerwald equalized before the second break. In the final third, Vorarlberg turned up the heat and scored five goals within eight minutes. Indiscipline was Asiago’s downfall – the Italians conceded five goals when they were outnumbered. For the ECB, Posch and Toivo Laaksonen each scored a brace.
HC Gherdeina valgardena.it – Hockey Unterland Cavaliers 6:5 SO (2:1, 2:2, 2:3)
Val Gardena and Unterland fought a thrilling duel with numerous leadership changes. The Furies took an early 2-0 lead, but the Cavaliers equalized in the middle period – and even after falling behind again, they managed to equalize again. In the 59th minute, Val Gardena took the lead again with 6:5, but 14 seconds before the end Kaufmann scored to make it 6:6. In the shootout, Deluca finally secured the home win.
