After four recent defeats, EC Red Bull Salzburg has turned back to winning ways against Hydro Fehervar AV19. The people of Mozartstadt were correspondingly relieved.
Defeats against Pustertal, the Pioneers, Laibach and Graz, as well as the clear CHL defeat against Ingolstadt. The last few days have not been easy for the reigning champions. But yesterday they delivered a rock-solid performance against the guests from Hungary.
“We’re really happy. We’re going through a difficult phase and we decided that only the next game counts. We were able to implement that today; a lot of positive things, a lot of energy, a lot of shots on goal. We also kept it a little simpler today, that’s exactly our game,” said long-time bull Florian Baltram after the 4-1 win over Laibach. The Viennese celebrated his third goal of the season yesterday.
Head coach Manny Viveiros was also very satisfied after the game. For him, the main reason why Salzburg were able to deliver a strong performance yesterday was staying away from the penalty box. RBS cracks only handed out a penalty twice. They played as disciplined as possible and ultimately rewarded themselves for a compact performance.
Three real top games this week
Now we’re looking ahead, because Salzburg’s next task awaits on Wednesday. Then the Mozartstadt team will host ERC Ingolstadt in the second leg of the Champions Hockey League round of 16. Two real classics await in the league next weekend: on Friday they welcome Linz, on Sunday Schneider, Corcoran and Co. play at the EC-KAC.
