Despite the absence of six regulars, the EC-KAC only faltered briefly in the home game against the Pioneers Vorarlberg on Friday evening, the red jackets ultimately won 5-2.
Post game commentary from Assistant Coach David Fischer:
“Our start was okay, but we tried a little too complicated in the neutral zone, which suits a team like the Pioneers who are looking for counterattacks. In the second period we got the puck deep more often, the forecheck worked, which resulted in chances that we were able to convert into goals. The third period was a human reaction, with a fairly clear lead on the scoreboard you unfortunately become careless, so the opponent came close again. Those 13, 14 minutes left in the game a bit of a bitter aftertaste, but we turned things around again in the power play.
We mastered the task and got three important points, which is not a given because we were missing five strikers today and yet we were able to find chemistry and understanding of the game. It may not have been fancy in terms of play, but it’s nice how our team works and how they find ways to be successful. This actually works in almost every game and the boys deserve a compliment for that. We still have to get some things under control, no question, but the big picture looks good.”
