The NHL and the NHLPA have agreed that the five players who were acquitted in the trial due to an incident in 2018 will remain closed until December 1, 2025. From October 15, however, you can again sign contracts with NHL teams.
Part of the agreement is that the players do without their right to call. Without this agreement, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman should have made a hearing and a judgment-with a possible subsequent arbitration procedure.
The players concerned are Michael Mcleod, Dillon Dube, Cal Foote, Alex Formenton and Carter Hart. All were acquitted in July 2025 after a two -month process in London (Ontario).
In a statement, the league emphasized that the behavior of the players did not punish, but “did not meet the moral standard of the NHL”. At the same time, she pointed out that the players had not played for around 20 months.
