Innsbruck was Joel Messner’s first stop in Europe in the 21/22 season. The man from Winnipeg (CAN) knew how to impress at the HCI and, among other things, scored 35 points in 49 games. This was followed by engagements in Zvolen (Slovakia), at HC Pustertal and in Fehérvár. For the Hungarians, Messner was a stable fixture on defense for two years and reached the semi-finals of the win2day ICE Hockey League with Fehérvár last season. Now the 32-year-old is returning to Tyrol.
The entire organization of HC TIWAG Innsbruck-Die Haie is pleased to welcome Joel Messner back to Innsbruck.
Joel Messner:
“My family and I are very happy to be returning to Innsbruck. This city, the club and the fans have a special place in our hearts. I really want to see the HCI successful again and can’t wait to work on it with the team.”
HC TIWAG Innsbruck head coach Ryan Kinasewich:
“Joel impresses with his overview, a strong first pass and the ability to get involved in the attacking game. At the same time, he uses his experience to ensure calm and structure on the ice. He will definitely help us move forward.”
Assistant Coach Florian Pedevilla:
“Since I still know Joel well, we are very happy that he is joining us for the next two years. You can expect Joel Messner to be a modern, offensively strong defender who builds up the game well and brings stability to our defense with his physical presence.”
