Pioneers Vorarlberg ahead of South Tyrol double!

The Pioneers end the old calendar year in Bolzano and start the year 2026 two days later with the game in Bruneck.

Calendar year 2025 ends in Bolzano

The last game of 2025 is on the program for the Pioneers Vorarlberg on Tuesday, the trip goes to Bolzano, where the third duel of the season with HCB Südtirol awaits the Nygard cracks. So far this season there has been nothing for the Montfortstadt team to gain against the “Foxes”, the team from Bolzano clearly won both games.

In the table of the win2day ICE Hockey League, the South Tyroleans are currently in fifth place (55 points), the people of Bolzano have won four of the last five games, most recently there was a 4-1 win in Villach. Cole Schneider is the top scorer in the HCB ranks, the Canadian is in seventh place in the league in the scorer rankings with 35 points (14G, 21A).

Staying away from the penalty box is of course always desirable, but this is particularly true in the duel with the “Foxes”. With a success rate of just over 23 percent, Neo-Head Coach Doug Shedden’s protégés are the fourth best team in this ranking.

Start into the new year in Brunico

On New Year’s Day, captain Macierzynski & Co continue with the game in Bruneck against HC Pustertal. As against HCB Südtirol, the Vorarlbergers have not been able to score points against the “Wolves” so far this season.

The Pustertal team lost 1:4 in Graz on Sunday, and the team from Bruneck won three of the last five games. This currently results in fourth place in the table (56 points). With Cole Bardreau, a HCP player is in the top ten in the scorer rankings (32 points), and when it comes to special teams, the “Wolves” are one of the best five teams in the league.

“Our defensive performance in the last few games was good”

It is not yet certain whether Julius Reini, who was recently absent due to illness, will be able to take part again. There is an update on Roni Allén and Daniel Woger. Both players have at least returned to the ice, but it is still too early to play.

PIV head coach Johannes Nygard before the games in South Tyrol: “We have shown a good defensive performance in the last few games, we can build on that. At the same time, we also want to ensure that we show more calm in possession in order to generate a little more offense again.”
