Head coach Philipp Pinter will bring together 32 players on Monday to prepare for the World Cup Division IA in Ferlach, where they will also play two test games against Slovenia and Norway on Wednesday and Thursday. The squad then has to be reduced to 23 men before starting the tournament against the hosts on December 7th in Bled (SLO).
“We have a lot ahead of us this year,” says Philipp Pinter. The Villacher remembers the previous year, in which they narrowly failed to get into the top division: “You can tell, especially with those players who were there, that they are already on fire.”
But first we have to find the final squad, Philipp Pinter: “We have a very exciting squad, with numerous players who have already played in a U18 or U20 World Cup.”
According to Pinter, it’s important to find the right mix for the World Cup: “We have a basic idea of the squad. Some have the chance to prove themselves anew and come to the fore in the best possible way.”
In the two test matches against Slovenia and Norway next Wednesday and Thursday in Ferlach there will be a lot of mixing so that every player gets a chance to prove themselves, promises the head coach.
He is also supported by sports director Roger Bader, who is in constant contact with Philipp Pinter and will also be on site at the World Cup: “The first step is about the coaching team getting the team ready for the World Cup. As a coach, you always have a team in mind, but there are always one or two changes because players present themselves particularly well. Everyone should give full throttle, get fully involved and fight for their place.”
The final squad will be nominated after the two test matches. Philipp Pinter: “We are very full in all positions. There will be a tough battle for places.”
