The seventh round of the Alps Hockey League brought four home and two away wins. League leaders KHL Sisak beat Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel 5-2 at home. In addition, EK Die Zeller Eisbären celebrated a 4-3 away win at HC Migross Asiago – led by a brilliant Tim Coffman, who scored three goals. Second-placed HC Gherdeina valgardena.it won on Saturday for the fourth time in a row. EC Bregenzerwald, HC Meran/o Pircher and SG Cortina also remained victorious. The latter narrowly prevailed against the Rittner Buam SkyAlps 4:3 after a shootout.
KHL Sisak won the top game against Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel 5-2 and celebrated their sixth win in their seventh game. Kitzbühel, third in the table, got off to a better start and took a 2-0 lead. However, the Croatians were able to equalize in the first third thanks to a brace from Vito Idzan. There were no further goals in the middle period before the home team took the lead for the first time in the 43rd minute in front of 1,700 fans. In the final phase, Sisak added two goals and inflicted Kitzbühel’s third defeat of the season.
Coffman with hat trick in Zell am See’s away win
The American Tim Coffman decided the EK Die Zeller Eisbären’s game at HC Migross Asiago almost single-handedly. The 37-year-old scored a hat trick in the defending champions’ 4-3 away win. This meant that Zell am See was able to breathe a sigh of relief after two defeats in a row, while Asiago suffered its first defeat after three wins in a row. In a balanced game in front of 1,100 fans, the guests initially took the lead before Asiago turned the game around in the 32nd minute. With two more goals, Coffman put the champions back in front by the 43rd minute. Christian Jennes made the decision two minutes before the end with an empty netter.
Val Gardena with its fourth win in a row
HC Gherdeina valgardena.it also remained successful against the in-form Red Bull Hockey Juniors and celebrated their fourth win in a row. The second-placed team, which is two points behind leader Sisak, won 3-1 in front of almost 800 fans. For the fourth-placed Juniors it was the first defeat after two wins in a row. Adam Brady (10th) and Davide Schiavone (23rd, 25th/PP1) scored for Val Gardena, while Nico Koschek (44th) scored the consolation goal for Salzburg.
Cortina with a shootout win against Ritten
SG Cortina Hafro narrowly retained the upper hand against the Rittner Buam SkyAlps 4:3 after a shootout. The guests from Ritten were in the lead with 1:0 and 2:1. After 40 minutes the score was 2-2. In the 55th minute, Cortina took the lead 3-2, but Ritten equalized two minutes before the end in a power play through Simon Kostner and forced extra time. Since there was no decision in overtime, the shootout was necessary – Brandon Fortunato scored the decisive penalty for the eighth team in the table. Ritten remains sixth with one point more.
Bregenzerwald wins in Unterland
In the game between the Hockey Unterland Cavaliers and EC Bregenzerwald, the guests from Vorarlberg won 5-2. In a long, evenly balanced encounter, Bregenzerwald led 2-0 after 31 minutes. It wasn’t until the 50th minute that the bottom team from Unterland reduced the deficit, but shortly afterwards Roberts Lipsbergs restored the old gap with his first of two goals. Two minutes before the end, the Cavaliers reduced the deficit again before the ninth-place team made everything clear with two empty-net goals.
Meran inflicts Jesenice’s next defeat
HC Meran/o Pircher also celebrated a narrow 3-1 home win against HDD Jesenice. It was the fourth win of the season for the sixth-placed team, while runner-up Jesenice still only has one win to their name and is in twelfth place. After 34 goalless minutes, the guests initially took the lead, but Meran equalized a short time later. Four minutes before the end, Giovanni Mandruzzato made it 2-1 before Samuel Claesson fixed the final score 19 seconds before the end.
