The Capitals organization decided to place head coach Gerry Fleming on leave immediately. The 59-year-old Canadian and the Vienna Capitals professional team were informed of this step this morning. Discussions are currently being held with suitable successors.
The previous assistant coach Fabian Scholz will take over Fleming’s agenda on an interim basis until the international break in November. The 35-year-old from Salzburg is supported by Rafael Rotter, who has been promoted to assistant coach on an interim basis, and goalie coach Bernhard Starkbaum. The sporting director of the Vienna Capitals, Christian Dolezal, himself a long-time assistant coach and head coach of the professional team in the 2023/24 season, will support the coaching team in the next four league games.
