Former NHL striker Brett Ritchie has a new club after his disappointing stint with EC VSV. The 32-year-old Canadian is joining the Sheffield Steelers from the British Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL).
Ritchie had recently come to Villach with great expectations, but was unable to fulfill them. His tryout with VSV was ended prematurely after the massive power forward only recorded one goal and two assists in eight appearances. Despite his physical presence and plenty of experience from the NHL (including for Dallas, Calgary, Boston and Arizona), the hoped-for influence on the Eagles’ game did not materialize.
Now Ritchie is making a new attempt in England. The Sheffield Steelers officially confirmed the signing. In the Steelers’ official statement, head coach Aaron Fox particularly praised Ritchie’s size, experience and presence in front of the goal. The Canadian has already joined the team and is currently waiting for his final eligibility to play.
