The Steinbach Black Wings Linz react to the tense personnel situation and sign Michael Kernberger. The national team defender signs a temporary contract until the international break in November and is also to be used against the KAC next Friday.
At the Steinbach Black Wings – as at the beginning of last season – there is currently another tense personnel situation. There are also numerous injury -related failures this year. Among other things, Sean Collins, Ken Ograjensek and Luis Lindner fail in the long term. After a training accident last weekend, Gerd Kragl also has to take an indefinite period due to an upper body injury.
For this reason, the sporting direction around Head Coach Philipp Lukas was forced to expand the squad to expand defensing power. From now on, the Stahlstadt residents are now committed to the Austrian national team defender Michael Kernberger, who will initially strengthen the team until the international break in November.
The 28-year-old Klagenfurter has played for his home club since his youth before moving to the Graz99ers in the 2021/22 season. There he played 189 games in four seasons and scored a total of 33 points. Since 2017 it has also been an integral part of the squad of the Austrian national team.
With its 1.84 meters of height and 87 kilograms, Kernberger will appear in the game against his home club for the Upper Austrians after the success of all registration formalities.

In terms of personnel, we are currently in a tense situation and it is unclear when we get players back. So we had to react and are very happy that we were able to sign Michael Kernberger at short notice. We are convinced that a player of his quality should have already found a team at that time of the season. He has a lot of international experience and can give us the necessary stability on the defensive.

I am very happy to support the team. I will do my best and hope that I can already run on Friday. There is of course a special tension against the KAC – the playoffs last year were incredible. Playing in Linz means a unique atmosphere – I am particularly looking forward to that.
