League meeting: Unity for cooperation with the associations and national teams!

On Saturday, the club representatives and the executive board of the win2day ICE Hockey League met for a general meeting in Villach.

Based on the existing contracts with the Austrian Ice Hockey Association, the key points for the 2026/27 league season have already been determined. This will begin on Friday September 18th. Depending on the results of the four national teams participating in the league at the upcoming A World Cup, the championship can be held until the end of April.

At the meeting in Villach, central topics for the further development of the league and the entire sport of ice hockey in the markets involved were discussed in a constructive atmosphere. The following key points in particular emerged:

  • possible league expansion in Italy, in particular through the application of a new organization from Milan
  • Adaptation of the squad structures to economic and sporting conditions
  • increased focus on training young talent

The presentation of the project from Milan was referred to the formal acceptance process, which will be decided at the general meeting in June at the latest.

All 13 clubs agreed on a common line for the future of the league, particularly in the areas of squad structure and youth work. This requires adjustments to the economic, sporting and legal framework – especially with regard to European legal requirements.

There was also agreement that close cooperation with the associations and national teams is essential for the growth of ice hockey. Strong national players are considered an important factor for both the identity of the clubs and the performance of the national teams.
