The man-of-the-match on the sharks, Marcel Witting, went hard to court with himself and his team after the game: “It can’t be. We sleep every time, come back, are fully involved, and in the end fall like a house of cards”. Today it is important to show a reaction: “A lot has to change. We have to fight, shoot, play simple ice hockey because it is complicated by itself”. Haie newcomers Max Coatta, who was at least happy about a goal and an assist yesterday, expects a close game: “Vienna always has a good team, has some experienced players and is well strengthened in summer. But the three points have to stay in Innsbruck today”.
Like the sharks, the Vienna Capitals suffered a defeat last night. In Feldkirch it set a 2: 4 against the previously winless Pioneers. And like the sharks, the caps were bumped into the season. Two narrow victories against Linz and Ferencvaros face three defeats. In summer there was a complete restart with the caps. Eight new imports were brought, including the ex-Innsbrucker Simon Bourque, league-proven local players reinforce the squad.
After the defeat in Feldkirch, the caps want to appear differently today. Head coach Gerry Fleming: “There were phases in the game where it could have tipped on our side. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough in the end. Our forecheck was definitely not good, we have to improve that”. Zane Franklin, who is expecting an exciting game for today: “It is still early in the season, the teams still have to find themselves, everyone can beat everyone”.
