Lyle Seitz after a controversial scene in the derby: “The decision cannot be changed”

A controversial whistle overshadowed the Carinthian derby between VSV and KAC. A supposed opening goal by Villach was not recognized and caused heated discussions – now referee boss Lyle Seitz spoke up.

With the score at 1:1, VSV striker Felix Maxa apparently made it 2:1 after a strong forecheck. However, referee Ladislav Smetana had already blown the whistle because he could not see the puck. After a video review and consultation, the decision stood. ICE League representative Lyle Seitz made it clear to the “Kronen Zeitung”: “If the game is whistled, it is final – nothing can be changed about such a decision.”

According to Seitz, the whistle was in accordance with the rules: “As soon as that is the case and the goalie moves down, he is allowed to blow the whistle – even if he does not see the puck.” VSV ultimately lost the derby 2:3, but took home one of the best performances of the last few weeks.
