Big grief for NHL-Hall-of-Famer!

Former goalkeeper Eddie Giacomin, one of the formative players in his era, died at the age of 86.

The Giacomin, born in Sudbury, Ontario, played a total of 610 main round games in the NHL between 1965 and 1978. He spent most of his career at the New York Rangers before completing his career at the Detroit Red Wings. With 290 wins and 54 Shutouts, he was one of the best goalkeepers in the league for many years.

Giacomin celebrated his greatest individual success in 1971 when he won the Vezina Trophy as the best NHL goalie. He was also appointed to the All-Star teams several times. He was included in the Hockey Hall of Fame for his services in 1987. The Rangers recognized its importance by pulling his legendary rear number 1 under the hall roof of the Madison Square Garden in 1989.
