Alex Ovechkin will not decide his future until the end of the season. The Washington Capitals superstar announced that he would clarify with his family and the club management in the summer whether he would end his career or continue another NHL season. A crucial factor for the soon-to-be 41-year-old is his physical condition.
Ovechkin continues to be the focus of attention in sport: he recently broke Wayne Gretzky’s decades-long goal record with his 895th goal and has now expanded his mark to over 920 goals. The Russian also holds numerous other records, including the most power play and winning goals in NHL history.
The Capitals are currently still fighting for playoff qualification, while at the same time the focus is already on the last home games of the season. The great interest of the fans shows that this could possibly be the last appearances of the club legend.
It remains to be seen whether Ovechkin will end his career or perhaps stay for another year – possibly also in the KHL. The decision should be made in the summer.
