The EK Die Zeller Eisbären celebrated a 3-0 home win against league leaders Red Bull Hockey Juniors on Saturday. While Asiago achieved its ninth league win in a row, Bregenzerwald and Vipiteno remained in the race for the Masterround places. Cortina also ended its losing streak.
EK Die Zeller Eisbären – Red Bull Hockey Juniors 3:0 (2:0, 1:0, 0:0)
In front of almost 2,900 fans, the Zeller Eisbären celebrated an impressive derby victory against the league leaders. The Pinzgauers dominated for long stretches, acted aggressively and gave the juniors little room to develop. Zauner and Huard secured a comfortable 2-0 lead in the first third. In the middle period, Jennes made the final score 3-0. Goalie Schmidt impressed with a shutout. With the win, Zell am See moved within three points of the juniors.
HDD Jesenice – HC Migross Asiago 4:5 SO (2:1, 1:2, 1:1)
Both teams fought a thrilling duel with the lead changing several times. The Slovenians went ahead twice, but Asiago turned the game around in the middle third and took the lead 3-2 through Traversa. However, Jesenice fought back and made it 4:3 by the 52nd minute. In the final phase, Valentini secured extra time for the guests with a power play goal. After scoreless overtime, the striker also made the decision in the shootout. Although Asiago missed the fixed Master Round qualification, it took another step towards the playoffs with its ninth win in a row.
Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan – Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel 3:2 OT (1:1, 1:1, 0:0)
Kitzbühel started strong and took the lead through Engelhart. Shortly before the first break, Kruselberger equalized in the power play. At the beginning of the middle third, Hofer turned the game around for Vipiteno, but Fröwis made it 2-2 a short time later. Despite numerous chances – especially when outnumbered and outnumbered – Gratzer and Groh kept their teams in the game with strong saves. In extra time, Zandegiacomo scored the decisive goal in favor of the Broncos in the 64th minute.
EC Bregenzerwald – Hockey Unterland Cavaliers 6:1 (0:0, 3:1, 3:0)
Bregenzerwald celebrated a clear home win against the bottom of the table and maintained its chances of making it to the top 5. After a goalless starting third, new signing Rantanen put the ECB in the lead. Unterland equalized in the meantime, but the hosts pulled away to 3-1 by the second break. In the final third, Grasser, Haiböck and again Rantanen made everything clear with his second goal. The ECB improved to sixth place – just one point behind Kitzbühel.
SG Cortina Hafro – HC Gherdeina valgardena.it 5:1 (2:1, 3:0, 0:0)
After six defeats in a row, Cortina convincingly returned to winning ways. Sanna gave the home team an early lead before head coach Gaber Glavic’s team went into the first break with a 2-1 lead. In the middle period, Kalajanniska made it 3-1 with his second goal before a double strike from Chad Pietroniro made the early decision. It remained 5:1 until the end.
