Michael Grabner is about to make a comeback on home ice!

The former NHL professional
Michael Grabner

makes a surprise return to the ice in Austria in the summer. The 38-year-old from Villach will play for the “Milkfit Adler” in the coming Sunshine Hockey League (SHL) season – together with his 15-year-old son Aidan.

The special commitment was orchestrated by Marco Richter, who not only serves as the team’s captain but is also Grabner’s brother-in-law. The anticipation is great, as Richter emphasized to the “Kronen Zeitung”: “Let’s see how good Michi is!”

For Grabner it will be a very special chapter in his career: for the first time he will be on the ice on a team with his son. The former NHL striker has had an impressive career – he scored 184 goals and provided 107 assists in 680 games.

After his playing days, Grabner now works as a youth coach for the Phoenix Junior Coyotes in North America, where he also looks after his son, among other things.

The Sunshine Hockey League brings together eight teams with players from top Austrian leagues and international clubs. The games will be played on several dates in June and July before the playoffs take place in Klagenfurt.
