After injury shock: This is what happens to Graz99ers keeper Lagace

Big relief for the Moser Medical Graz99ers: After the injury shock surrounding regular goalkeeper Maxime Lagace, there is cautiously positive news. The Canadian goalkeeper, who had to leave the ice early in the 4-0 win in the third semi-final game against Fehervar, apparently did not suffer any serious injuries.

The scene caused anxious minutes on Thursday evening: In the 50th minute of the game, Lagace left the ice injured and was unable to finish the game. In view of his outstanding performances in the series so far – only three goals conceded in three games – there was growing concern that the Graz team could lose their most important support in the decisive part of the season.

However, the MRI examination carried out on Friday gave the first all-clear. “Fortunately there is a cautious all-clear,” said sports director Philipp Pinter, relieved, to the “Kronen Zeitung”. Although details of the exact diagnosis have not been fully disclosed, a serious injury appears to be ruled out.

One thing is certain, however: backup goalkeeper Nico Wieser will be between the posts in the upcoming fourth semi-final game on Easter Sunday. It’s a great opportunity for the young keeper – but at the same time a challenge to keep his nerve in a potentially decisive game.

How quickly Lagace will be able to play again remains unclear for the time being. Those responsible rely on a daily assessment of his condition. “After that we’ll see how Max is doing from day to day,” said Pinter.
