For
Greg Biber the dream of the NHL is becoming more and more concrete. The 19-year-old defender has now confirmed after the upcoming
IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship an entry-level contract
Utah mammoth to sign – that’s what the “Kronen Zeitung” reports.
The Lower Austrian is one of the greatest talents in Austrian ice hockey and could soon take the next step towards the best league in the world.
Contract after the World Cup
Biber is currently preparing for the World Cup in Switzerland with the Austrian national team. The change should then become official. According to the defender in the “Kronen Zeitung”, the organization had signaled to him that now was the right time to take the next step in his career.
The three-year entry-level contract could bring the ÖEHV talent up to $975,000 per season – not including possible bonus payments.
Development in Sweden
Biber most recently played for the traditional Swedish club
Rögle BK and was already part of the permanent staff there despite his young age. With Rögle, the Austrian reached the final of the Swedish league last season, but had to admit defeat there.
In the meantime, the 1.90 meter tall defender was set back by a concussion, but then worked his way back successfully.
Utah believes in the Austrian
Utah mammoth secured the rights to Biber in the 2024 NHL draft and took the defender at position 98. Now the next big step is likely to follow.
In June, the young Austrian will first take part in the development camps in Salt Lake City before the rookie camps start in August. After that, Biber will finally prove himself in North American professional ice hockey.
