The Boston Bruins presented club icons Zdeno Chara as hockey operations advisor and mentor. In his new function, the 48-year-old will work closely with players and staff to support the organization in central areas.
New task
Chara’s tasks include strengthening communication between players and coaches, participating in training sessions and home games, and in particular to accompany the defenders in their off-ea development. In addition, he will also act as a resource for the development team and regularly visit the AHL prospects.
“The Bruins are proud to have Zdeno back in the organization,” said General Manager Don Sweeney. “He brings experience, leadership skills and status as one of the greatest defenders in NHL history.”
Head Coach Marco Sturm, once teammate Charas, emphasized: “I know from my own experience what professionalism, work attitude and management quality embodies. We are thrilled to have him back with the Bruins in this role.”
Legend in Boston
Chara played 14 seasons for the Bruins from 2006 to 2020, was over captain all the time and led the team to the Stanley Cup triumph in 2011. In more than 1,000 games for Boston-and over 1,600 in his entire NHL career-the Slovak shaped the league like hardly any other defender. He won the Norris Trophy in 2009, was a six-time NHL all-star and received the Mark Messier Leadership Award in 2011. He is also the player with the most NHL operations of all defenders to this day.
