The Rittner Buam SkyAlps prevailed in the top game against table leaders Red Bull Hockey Juniors on the Epiphany match day and thus climbed into the top 5. Three of the six games in this round were decided in overtime or shootouts. Bregenzerwald, Zell and Kitzbühel secured the extra points. Asiago and Gherdeina also celebrated successes.
Ritten wins against league leaders
League leaders Red Bull Hockey Juniors had to admit defeat at home to Rittner Buam SkyAlps on Epiphany. The Salzburg hosts had a much better start to the encounter and were already leading 2-0 after just over ten minutes. In the middle section, however, the guests from Ritten turned the game around and made it 3-2 within 20 minutes, also because Leonardo Felicetti scored a brace. In the final section, none of the teams were able to write any more. With this victory, Ritten climbed into the top 5 of the table.
Asiago celebrates sovereign success over Hockey Unterland
HC Migross Asiago won 4-1 against the Hockey Unterland Cavaliers on the holiday match day. After a goalless starting third, Unterland initially scored. However, Asiago managed to equalize in the middle section. In a strong final third, Asiago finally made it 4-1 and thus further secured their top 4 placement.
Gherdeina wins in Jesenice
The Hockey Club Gherdeina won away to HDD Jesenice with a narrow score of 6:5. The balanced starting third ended with a 1:1. A brace from Matteo Luisetti then put Gherdeina ahead 3-1, but Jesenice equalized in the middle period. In the final third, Gherdeina advanced again, but Jesenice equalized again before Nicolo Esposito and Luke Moncada made the decision.
Bregenzerwald defeats Wipptal in overtime
EC Bregenzerwald celebrated a 3-2 overtime victory over the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan. However, the Broncos got off to a much more efficient start, finishing the first period 2-0. In the middle third, Bregenzerwald fought its way back into the match and equalized. After a scoreless third period, David König made the decision in overtime.
Kitzbühel turns game against Meran
Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel celebrated a shootout win against HC Merano/o after being 3-0 down. Meran started the encounter more dangerously, took a 2-0 lead in the first half and then increased the lead to 3-0 at the start of the middle third. Only then did the Kitzbühel Express get rolling, equalizing by the 41st minute and even taking the lead another ten minutes later. However, Meran struck back again and escaped into extra time, but ultimately had to admit defeat in the penalty shootout. Mai Crnkic recorded a three-point game (two goals, one assist) for Kitzbühel that evening.
Zell defeats Cortina in a shootout
The EK Zeller Eisbären and SG Cortina Hafro also had an exciting encounter that went beyond the regular playing time. After a high-scoring but balanced starting third that ended with the score at 2-2, there was a long period of goal drought. Only in the final section did Zell take the lead on the power play. However, Cortina had the right answer ready. After a goalless overtime, Max Wilfan secured the decision and the exact point in the penalty shootout.
