AlpsHL: Derby time in South Tyrol – Salzburg, Zell & Kitzbühel also in action!

The Alps Hockey League continues on Tuesday with four matches in the eighth round. In the top game, fourth-placed Red Bull Hockey Juniors and third-placed Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel meet.

In addition, the Rittner Buam SkyAlps will face the in-form second-placed HC Gherdeina valgardena.it in the derby, the EK Die Zeller Eisbären will host SG Cortina Hafro and in the “basement duel” the penultimate HDD Jesenice will face bottom team Hockey Unterland Cavaliers.

Third-placed Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel currently has twelve points and is only one point ahead of the Red Bull Hockey Juniors, who enjoy home advantage on Tuesday. Salzburg lost 3-1 in Val Gardena on Saturday, suffering their first defeat after two wins in a row. Kitzbühel recently lost to league leaders KHL Sisak 2:5 – also their first defeat after two wins. The Eagles have so far only been able to win one away game after overtime, while the Juniors won two of their four home games and have scored points in all of their home games so far. The last direct duel was on November 26, 2024, when Kitzbühel clearly won 8-0 at home. The Tyroleans also clearly prevailed in the other two duels of the season (6:1, 8:1).

South Tyrol derby: Ritten welcomes Val Gardena

HC Gherdeina valgardena.it is currently in second place in the table with 15 points and is only two points behind the game-free leaders KHL Sisak. With a win in the derby at the Rittner Buam SkyAlps, Val Gardena could take the lead in the table. Ritten is in sixth place with eleven points, but has played one more game than Val Gardena and has only won three of its eight games so far. Last week, the Buam had to admit defeat to both Sisak (1:3) and Cortina (3:4/SO), while Val Gardena won its last four games in a row – currently the longest winning streak in the league. Both teams met once in pre-season preparation, with Ritten narrowly winning 2-1. In the league, Ritten won the last six duels against Val Gardena; The Furie’s last success was on September 29, 2022.

Neighborhood duel in the table: Zell am See vs. Cortina

Defending champions EK Die Zeller Eisbären are currently in ninth place, one point behind eighth-placed SG Cortina Hafro, but have played two fewer games. Last weekend, the Pinzgauers celebrated a 4-3 away win in Asiago after suffering two defeats in a row. Cortina also won 4-3 against Ritten, but only after a shootout. The Italians had previously lost two games in a row. Last season, Cortina won three of the five direct duels.

Crisis duel: Jesenice vs. Unterland

There will also be a crisis duel between HDD Jesenice and the Hockey Unterland Cavaliers. Both teams have only been able to win one of their seven games so far and are in twelfth (JES) and thirteenth (HCU). Jesenice celebrated its only win so far on September 26th at home against Bregenzerwald (3-0), Unterland won away at Ritten a day later (3-2). Last season, the Slovenians won all three direct duels against the South Tyroleans.
