The next setback for the Austrian national team: With
Benjamin Baumgartner Another key player is out for the upcoming World Cup in Switzerland – this is reported by the “Kleine Zeitung”.
The 26-year-old center, who is at
SC Bern is under contract, had to end the training camp early after just three days. Baumgartner had already injured his ankle in mid-February and underwent surgery. Since then he hasn’t been able to play a game. Despite great hopes of a comeback in time for the World Cup, one thing is clear: his physical condition is not yet sufficient.
Particularly bitter: Baumgartner was looking forward to a kind of “home World Cup” because he is playing in Switzerland. The final rejection now weighs even more heavily.
For team boss
Roger Bader
This worsens the already tense personnel situation – especially in the center position. Currently standing with
Benjamin Nissner and
Lucas Thaler Only two regular center forwards were available, although Thaler was originally planned as a winger.
