EC Red Bull Salzburg’s rollercoaster season continues happily. There was one win and one defeat at the weekend. The reigning champions are yet to see any consistency.
But if you look at the table, things don’t look quite so bad for the people of Mozartstadt. After 14 games, the men from the Salzach are in 5th place. With 25 points, they are “only” four points behind league leaders Pustertal, against whom they had to admit defeat 3:5 in front of their home crowd on Sunday.
The start of the season was very good with four successes in a row, but since then we have struggled with consistency. Only recently did head coach Manny Viveiros’ team once again achieve two wins in a row. This mini-series then just came to an end again against the Brunecker Wolves: “Maybe we were satisfied. But that can’t be the case,” Viveiros told the “Kronen Zeitung”. The experienced Canadian also spoke of “perhaps the worst performance of the season”.
Due to the balance within the league, it is important to perform in every game: “We have a good squad, but we are currently not that much better than the other teams. In a league like this we have to perform in every game,” demands Viveiros.
There are now two games left for EC Red Bull Salzburg before the first “international break”. Ideally, you go into the break with six points, but whether that will be successful remains to be seen. Tomorrow, Wednesday, the Bulls will be visiting the Pioneers Vorarlberg, and on Friday there will be the second duel of the season with ex-RBS defender TJ Brennan and Olimpija Ljubljana.
