AlpsHL: Sisak regains league lead | Defeats for Austro clubs!

KHL Sisak returned to the top of the Alps Hockey League table on St. Stefani Day with a home win against Val Gardena. While Ritten and Asiago won against direct opponents for a top 5 placement, Cortina celebrated its sixth win in a row. Sterzing also prevailed at the champions in Zell am See.

KHL Sisak – HC Gherdëina valgardena.it 4:1 (2:0, 0:1, 2:0)
Sisak returned to the top of the table with another home win. The Croatians took the lead early through Brus (8th) in front of over 2,300 spectators, and Yeob followed up before the first break. After the restart, Val Gardena got into the game better and reduced the score to 1:2 in the power play thanks to new signing Dostalek. It remained exciting for a long time before Sisak scored twice more in the final minutes and also won the second home game against the South Tyroleans.

EK The Zeller Eisbären – Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan 3:4 (1:0, 1:4, 1:0)
After more than a year and a half, Vipiteno managed to win again in Zell am See. Although the home team took the lead late in the first third in front of 2,700 fans, the Broncos turned up the heat in the middle period. Cianfrone equalized before Livingston (2) and Gschliesser made it 4-1 by the 38th minute. The reigning champions were able to shorten the score again, but they couldn’t make it more than 2:4 until the final minute. In this, the Pinzgauer team scored the next goal, but had to accept their second defeat in a row.

Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel – HC Migross Asiago 1:4 (0:2, 1:1, 0:1)
Asiago ended its three-game losing streak. New signing Traversa played a big part in this, putting the guests in the lead with a brace. In the middle period the hosts reduced the deficit in front of more than 1,100 fans, but the Italians quickly restored their two-goal lead. With a double majority, Johnson made the final score 4-1 shortly before the end on his debut. This leaves Asiago in sixth place.

EC Bregenzerwald – Rittner Buam SkyAlps 1:5 (0:2, 1:1, 0:2)
After an even, at times disjointed start, Ritten took advantage of his chances: Felicetti (13th) and Welychka (19th) ensured a 2-0 lead after the first third. Shortly after the restart, Cuglietta increased the lead to 3-0 after a strong solo. Bregenzerwald remained dangerous in power plays and reduced the lead to 1:3 thanks to Lipsberg’s (32nd) advantage. In the final third, the hosts pushed for the connection in front of more than 1,000 spectators, but found their master several times in the strong Rittner goalie Furlong. In the final minute, the guests made the final score 5-1 with two more goals and thus defended fifth place.

SG Cortina Hafro – HC Meran/o Pircher 3:2 SO (1:1, 1:0, 0:1)
After just four minutes it was 1-1 before the spectators had to wait until the 28th minute for the next goal. Pomanin gave Cortina the lead again on the power play. However, Meran remained within striking distance and equalized through Gellon six minutes before the end of regular time. In overtime, the guests were unable to take advantage of a numerical advantage. In the shootout that followed, Cortina finally prevailed – Kalajanniska, who had already scored to make it 1-0, converted the decisive try. It was the sixth win in a row for the blue-whites.
