After 9 years: Is Austro export Dominic Zwerger leaving Ambri Piotta?

Austro export Dominic Zwerger is apparently about to say goodbye to Ambri-Piotta. Like the ice hockey journalist Klaus Zaugg on the portal Watson reports, the Austrian striker with a Swiss license will leave the club at the end of the current season. He should join the EHC Biel. Official confirmation of the transfer could come before Christmas.

Currently in impressive form

The 29-year-old attacker is experiencing a strong return to form in the current season, as with 12 goals so far, Zwerger is the second best goalscorer in the National League among players with a Swiss license. He is on a par with Grégory Hofmann and is only surpassed by Théo Rochette.

His time in Ambri

Zwerger came to Ambri in the summer of 2017 and completed his entire professional career at Leventina. In a total of 437 National League games he collected 267 points scorer, including 93 goals. Zwerger is also an integral part of the Austrian national team, where he has already completed numerous world championships.

Difficult phases in his career

Looking back, Ambri also had one of the most difficult phases of his career. After two concussions in 2022, first with Ambri against Lausanne, later in a friendly with the Austrian national team, the striker struggled not only physically, but above all mentally with severe panic attacks. In a documentary, Zwerger spoke openly about anxiety and existential worries that made this time the darkest of his life.
