Before the eyes of Vorarlberg’s ice hockey, the NHL player Marco Rossi, the Pioneers won their first test against the Swiss second division club HC Thurgau 2-1. Almost 1200 spectators did not miss the first preparatory game of the Montfortstädter. In the first game, the Vorarlbergers had to do without the two newcomers Louie Roehl and Nathan Burke, which could not appear due to injury.
In the first section, the home side caught a lightning start and were able to take the lead in the first shift. With a placed spacer shot, national player Ramon Schnetzer surprised the Swiss keeper and brought the Pioneers in the lead early. The Vorarlbergs subsequently survived a first outnumber, but shortly afterwards they had to accept the Swiss balance. The assignment of the Feldkirchers did not vote for once and so Mikael Slehofer came to the end directly in front of Caffi. The Feldkirchers then left their own power play, despite good opportunities. The hosts were slightly superior to the field and were close to a rod of Kevin Macierzynski almost 50 seconds before the first change of the new lead.
In the second section, in that both teams acted at eye level, the opponents each left an overpaid opportunity. Shortly after the center of the game, another defender was on hand with a goal. Ivan Korecky put the hard rubber, passing by Mark Mussbacher to the 2-1 lead in the mesh.
There were other good options on both sides in the goalless final section, but no further hits
