Nash Nienhuis was called up for the Austrian national team for the first time, but he had to withdraw due to injury. Is his World Cup debut now shaky?
Nash Nienhuis has been playing for Red Bull Salzburg in the ICEHL since last season. The defender with Austrian roots holds Austrian citizenship in addition to Canadian and US citizenship and would now also be eligible to play for the Austrian national team. As insider Bernd Freimüller reports, the 26-year-old was called up for the test tournament in Norway by Roger Bader for the first time, but Nienhuis had to withdraw due to injury.
How far will Red Bull Salzburg get?
This could have serious consequences. Because it is the last test tournament before the World Cup, preparations for the World Cup start in April and if Red Bull Salzburg made it to the final, they would only start preparing for the World Cup very late.
Whether team boss Roger Bader will consider a player who has never been in the team squad and only joins the World Cup preparations very late seems to be at least questionable. So participation in the World Cup is shaky for the Defender and it will probably only be seen in the spring whether Nienhuis will make it onto the World Cup train.
