Team boss Roger Bader is pursuing the dream of the Olympic Games with the national team!

Since November 2016 Roger Bader Team leader of the Austrian national ice hockey team – his contract has now been extended until 2028. In an interview with the “Crown newspaperThe Swiss talks about rising expectations and big goals.

Olympics as a big dream

Participation in the Olympic Games remains a central goal for Bader. At the last attempt, Austria was not yet ready, but intensive work is being done on this. The team boss is convinced that the necessary progress will have been made next time.

Constant development as a principle

Bader believes in lifelong learning. Books, politics, psychology – the coach is constantly educating himself and wants to pass on this mindset to the coaching staff and team. For him, rest on the boards is not a coincidence, but part of his philosophy. A loud appearance is not a sign of quality, as can be seen at the Olympics.

Increased trust in the association

During his term of office, Bader worked with three presidents, currently with Klaus Hartmann. The trust in his work has steadily grown over the years. Despite a setback caused by the Covid pandemic, the national team has developed significantly structurally and sportingly.

The intensified preparatory measures – such as several training camps – were also critically questioned in some cases. However, Bader is clearly behind this: More effort does not guarantee success, but it does increase the probability significantly.

World Cup in Switzerland: Realism despite soaring

After the historic quarter-finals last year, Austria wants to surprise again at the upcoming World Cup. “We would like to experience that again. But we know where we come from. It was three years ago when we only managed to stay in the league in a penalty shootout against Hungary. We are always closer to the fight to stay in the league than to a regular quarter-final. But if everything goes perfectly, we can do it again!”
