Hole in the ice – game in Olympic Arena interrupted!

About a month before the start of the Winter Olympics in Italy, there were problems in the new Santa Giulia ice hockey arena in Milan.

During a game in the Italian Cup between Varese and Caldaro on Friday evening, a small hole appeared in the ice, which meant the game had to be stopped for around five minutes. The problem was then resolved.

The arena, which has a capacity of 15,300 spectators, will initially only be used with 4,000 fans during the test phase. Parts of the hall are still under construction: workers in the stands, visible cables and scaffolding, unfinished changing rooms.

IOC sports director Pierre Ducrey expressed confidence, as the “Kronen Zeitung” reports: The hall is structurally finished, only the “finishing touches” remain. The Winter Games in Milan and Cortina will take place from February 6th to 22nd, 2026.
