Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel celebrated a 2-1 overtime win against the Hockey Unterland Cavaliers in Qualification Round A and thus caught up with leaders Cortina in the table.
After the 2-0 defeat against Unterland last weekend, the Tyroleans managed to get their revenge at the Sportpark Kitzbühel – but only after extra time.
The guests from South Tyrol got off to a better start: In the 14th minute, Moritz Kaufmann used a power play to give the Cavaliers a 1-0 lead. But the answer from the home team followed promptly. Just a minute later, Jakob Lippitsch equalized the score at 1-1.
The two goalkeepers then dominated the proceedings. Despite numerous opportunities on both sides – Kitzbühel had significantly more shots on goal – the score remained 1-1 in regular time.
The decision was finally made in overtime: Once again it was Jakob Lippitsch who struck in the 64th minute and scored the much celebrated 2-1 winning goal.
With this success, the Adler shorten the gap to league leaders Cortina and gain a good starting position in Qualification Round A.
