The EC-KAC is reacting to the injury-related loss of Jordan Murray and signing the ICE-experienced defender Josh Teves, who won the Slovakian championship title last year.
The EC-KAC is pleased to announce the signing of defender Josh Teves. The Canadian is joining the Red Jackets with immediate effect, with whom he has signed a contract until the end of the season. The record champions had to take personnel action due to the injury to Jordan Murray, who has to undergo an operation this week and will be out for several months. In addition, the World Cup is scheduled for the Austrian U20 national team at the beginning of December, so replacements from their own substructure will not be available.
Career
Josh Teves comes from Calgary, Alberta, and is a graduate of the renowned Princeton University in New Jersey. At the end of his fourth and final college season, he made his only NHL appearance for the Vancouver Canucks in March 2019, followed by three seasons in the AHL with 131 appearances for Utica and Rochester and a short ECHL stint in Kalamazoo. Josh Teves has been anchored in European ice hockey since 2022, where he first represented the Finnish first division team JYP and then SC Bern from Switzerland. In the 2023/24 season, the Canadian played for HCB Südtirol in the win2day ICE Hockey League, with whom he forced eventual champions Salzburg into overtime in the seventh semi-final game. For the Füchse, Josh Teves collected 36 scorer points (nine goals, 27 assists) in 60 games and had a +9 rating. The 30-year-old spent last season at HC Košice, with whom he won the Slovakian championship title.

“We are very pleased that Josh Teves is joining us and that he is available so quickly. After Jordan Murray’s serious injury, we had the feeling that we needed a suitable addition to our team in a timely manner, a player who could take on the role and position. The personal feedback that we have received in the past few days from people who have worked with Josh has been very positive across the board. We don’t need a savior who can turn around a bad start to the season, but a solid player who can improve our strong “Structure complemented in the right places with a broad set of skills and fits into our group. He is a strong skater, a smart player who was always an integral part of the power play at his last clubs. He fits in well with our fast, direct game, and he also knows our league well from his time at HCB and knows what to expect here,” says head coach Kirk Furey about the signing of the Canadian defender.
Josh Teves: “I am very excited to join the EC-KAC organization. I am coming to Klagenfurt to do my part in helping this club win another title this year. Having played in this league two years ago, I am very familiar with the success story of the EC-KAC and the high standards that prevail here. My family and I are looking forward to coming to Carinthia very soon and getting to know and being a part of the culture that surrounds the EC-KAC “Soon I’ll be standing on the ice in red and white, I can’t wait!”
The new signing will wear jersey number 4 at the EC-KAC, his arrival in Klagenfurt is planned for the current week, and the bureaucratic processes under labor and association law are already underway at the same time.
