Max Wilfan provided an impressive example of the much-quoted toughness of ice hockey players on Saturday evening in the Alps Hockey League.
The captain of the Zeller Eisbären was hit in the face by a puck during the 3-1 away win in Asiago and had to be taken to a local hospital covered in blood after the second period. The 35-year-old striker received stitches there, but was spared any major injuries.
Despite the painful incident, Wilfan gritted his teeth and returned to the ice in the third period. “Luckily, I only missed a third,” the attacker later joked to the “Kronen Zeitung.” The day after, the father of the family didn’t think about taking a break and announced that he would be ready for action again quickly with a full visor.
The club management also paid great respect to the efforts of their captain. Eisbären boss Patrick Schwarz was impressed by Wilfan’s fighting spirit and character, who once again demonstrated his leadership qualities and impressively embodied the team spirit of the Zeller Eisbären.
