The last Carinthian derby of the “regular season” goes to the EC-KAC. The red jackets won the EC iDM Heat Pumps VSV with 3:2 and thus secured the “season series” with 3:1.
In a high-class Carinthian derby in front of 3,465 fans in the sold-out Villach town hall, the EC-KAC narrowly prevailed 3-2. It was the Red Jackets’ third derby victory in their fourth duel of the season. The EC iDM Heat Pumps VSV got off to a better start and took the lead in the 24th minute through Adam Helewka. The league leaders from Klagenfurt struggled for a long time and only got into the game late. In the 44th minute, the guests finally managed to equalize with a double majority after Steven Strong and Adam Helewka were in the penalty box on the VSV side. As a result, an open exchange of blows developed with numerous scoring opportunities. In the 53rd minute, Simeon Schwinger finally made it 2-1 for the KAC. But the Eagles responded ideally: Philipp Lindner equalized in the power play in the 57th minute. However, the league leaders had the last word: Jan Muršak scored the 3-2 game winner just under two minutes before the end. The KAC celebrated its third win in a row and extended its lead over Graz to five points. The VSV, however, suffered its tenth defeat from the last eleven games and slipped to eleventh place in the table – two points behind tenth-placed Budapest.
